1. A 6x6x6 golf tournament is a fun and dynamic team-based format that combines three different types of golf play over the course of 18 holes. Each set of 6 holes features a different style of play, and teams switch up their strategies throughout the round. Here's how it works:

  1.  Format Breakdown:
    1. Teams: Typically played with two-person teams.
    2. 18 Holes: The round is divided into three segments of 6 holes each, for a total of 18 holes.
    3. Different Formats for Each 6-Hole Segment:
  2. First 6 holes: Best ball (also known as four-ball)
    1. Both players on the team play their own ball on each hole. The team’s score for the hole is the best score between the two players.
  3. Second 6 holes: Alternate shot
    1. For each hole, the two players take turns hitting the ball. One player tees off, and the other plays the second shot, continuing to alternate until the hole is finished.
  4. Final 6 holes: Chapman (Pinehurst) system
    1. Both players hit a tee shot, then they swap balls and play the second shot using the other player’s ball. After that, they alternate shots until the hole is finished.

  1. How It’s Played:
    1. The team plays the first 6 holes in the best ball format.
    2. The second set of 6 holes is played in the alternate shot format.
    3. The last 6 holes are played using the Chapman system
    4. At the end of 18 holes, the team's total score is calculated by adding the best scores from each segment (i.e., best ball, alternate shot, and Chapman).

  1. Strategy:
    1. In the best ball segment, each player has the opportunity to make the best score possible for the team, so it’s often a bit more relaxed in terms of teamwork.
    2. Alternate shot requires strong communication and strategy, as each player has to plan their shot based on their teammate’s capabilities.
    3. The Chapman system requires both players to be good at hitting each other’s shots and can be an opportunity for some great teamwork and recovery on challenging holes.

  1. This format makes the round dynamic, with different skills coming into play at different times, and it helps keep the tournament exciting!
