RMGC Thursday NCGA team match play.
Description: Every year the RMGC fields a team for Match Play against other clubs. There is a match against a team at Home and a match against that team at their course. All the matches are played on Thursday.
Roster: Each year players with handicaps 18 or below are invited to be on the RMGC roster. The more players on the roster the better. Each match will use 12 RMGC players selected from the roster by the Team Captain
The Schedule: Players are asked to look at the schedule and register to play on days that are likely to be available to them. This allows the captain to put the team together. It is important that we field 12 players or matches can be forfeited.
The Match: 12 players from RMGC are matched against 12 players from the visiting club. The format is match play. Foursomes are made up of 2 players from RMGC and 2 players from the visiting team.
The Game: the 2 RMGC players play their own ball. Team points are allocated based on each player’s individual game against their opponent, and both team players score versus the opponents team player score.
The Score: There are 36 total possible points in play:
6 teams of 2
Each team has a potential 6-point win
Player 1 wins individual match = 2 points
Player 2 wins individual match = 2 points
Player 1 and Player 2 team score win = 2 points
Total 6 points for this 2-player team
There are 6 teams of 2
6 times 6 = 36 total points.
The attitude: Some folks shy away from playing in a competition because they do not want to “let the team down”. Our RMGC teams are supportive of each players effort. We know that players are trying to do their best. But it is golf, anything can happen and most things do. So don’t let the worry of “letting the team” down keep you from a really enjoyable outing with your fellow Rossmoor teammates. There are great stories throughout the season, some great thrills, some agonies of defeat. But such is life and team sports.
The schedule. Match play usually starts in June and goes through the summer. Typically 3 matches at home and three matches away. Different players are pulled from the roster for each match based on player availability.
